Sable Noir – Jack Freestone

Sable Noir is a fashion editorial created for Desillusion magazine, featuring surfer and creative Jack Freestone. Shot on location in Papua New Guinea, the film places fashion within a raw, elemental landscape — where jungle, coastline, and volcanic terrain shape both mood and movement.

The piece moves between portraiture and observation, capturing Freestone as both subject and presence within the environment. The styling’s dark, restrained palette contrasts with the intensity of the surroundings, allowing texture, form, and light to take centre stage. Nothing feels staged or forced; the film embraces stillness as much as motion.

Shot with a cinematic, editorial eye, Sable Noir blurs the line between fashion film and travel portrait. It’s a study of contrast — refinement set against wilderness — resulting in a visually rich piece that feels instinctive, grounded, and quietly powerful.
