Barry & Art

Barry & Art

Filmed in San Diego, this intimate short film follows Barry and Art as they talk openly about getting older — and why that doesn’t mean slowing down or stepping away from the things you love.

Through relaxed conversation and moments spent in and around the ocean, the film explores ageing not as a limitation, but as a shift in perspective. Barry and Art reflect on time, experience, and the changing relationship with their bodies, while still finding freedom, joy, and purpose through surfing.

The approach is understated and observational. There’s no nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake, no attempt to romanticise the past. Instead, the film focuses on presence — the simple act of paddling out, reading the water, and sharing stories shaped by decades of life and waves.

Set against the soft light and familiar rhythms of the San Diego coastline, the film delivers a quiet but powerful message: passion doesn’t have an expiry date. Surfing isn’t reserved for the young — it belongs to anyone willing to keep showing up.

A gentle reminder that you are never too old to surf.
