Liberty Global — Global End-of-Year Film
Case study: Liberty Global — Global End-of-Year Film (2023)
“How We Connected a Global Workforce Across Six Territories in Just Three Weeks.”
The Challenge
When Liberty Global approached Beast Films in the final week of November 2023, the brief was ambitious: create a cinematic end-of-year film that would celebrate the organisation’s achievements, connect its international workforce and reinforce confidence in the company’s future. The film had two clear strategic objectives.
- Strengthen internal brand confidence. Celebrate the people, progress and achievements behind Liberty Global, helping employees feel connected to the wider organisation, proud of their contribution and optimistic about its direction.
- Attract new talent. Present Liberty Global as an ambitious, forward-thinking international business, showcasing its people, culture and leadership in a way that would appeal to prospective employees.
The challenge was to achieve both objectives through a single piece of storytelling, avoiding the predictable conventions of corporate communications.
There was also a significant production constraint. The project was commissioned in the final week of November, with delivery required by Christmas Eve. In approximately three weeks, we needed to develop the creative, coordinate international crews, film across six territories, complete the edit and visual effects, and deliver a polished final film.
The Creative Approach
Our strategy was to create a film that felt more like a personal reflection on a remarkable year than a traditional corporate presentation. Rather than having executives deliver achievements directly to camera, we built the narrative around people experiencing the company’s progress through footage of the year.
Employees and leadership were filmed watching significant moments, milestones and achievements unfold on screens and projections around them. Through carefully designed visual effects, reflections and overlays, these images appeared across faces and environments, creating a visual connection between individuals and the wider organisation. The effect was intimate and human. Almost like watching a family archive, but on a global corporate scale.
CEO Mike Fries provided the narrative anchor, bringing leadership, continuity and a clear sense of direction to the film.
The creative approach was deliberately designed to serve both audiences. For existing employees, it created recognition, belonging and pride. For prospective talent, it offered an authentic glimpse into the people, culture and ambition of a major international business.
Instead of telling audiences that Liberty Global was a great organisation to work for, we wanted them to feel it.
The Production: Six Territories, Three Weeks
The scale of the production demanded exceptional coordination. Our UK production team filmed at Liberty Global offices in London, Amsterdam, Northern England and Ireland, capturing leadership, employees and operational environments. In parallel, we remotely directed trusted production partners in Singapore and Denver, extending the shoot across multiple time zones without the cost and logistical complexity of transporting a full UK crew internationally.
Every location worked from a unified creative brief, visual treatment, technical specification and colour pipeline, ensuring consistency across the entire production. The film required a carefully coordinated approach to cinematography, lighting, performance and framing, particularly because the visual effects depended on integrating projected images and reflections into the finished sequences.
Despite the geographical scale, the film needed to feel as though it had been conceived and directed as one unified production. From commission to final delivery, the entire project was completed in approximately three weeks, including creative development, international production, editing, colour grading, sound and visual effects.
Six territories. Multiple international crews. One creative vision. Delivered before Christmas.
The Strategic Impact
The completed film gave Liberty Global a powerful internal communications asset designed to achieve more than simply summarise the year. By placing employees and leadership at the centre of the storytelling, the film reinforced the idea that the organisation’s achievements were collective. It celebrated individual contributions while connecting them to the scale, ambition and future direction of the business.
This was particularly important for an international organisation with employees working across different countries, departments and operating environments. The film helped create a shared narrative, allowing people to see themselves as part of something larger.
At the same time, the cinematic execution and human storytelling gave the film potential value beyond its original internal audience. The same qualities that strengthen employee confidence — visible leadership, authentic culture, recognition and collective ambition — are also powerful tools for attracting new talent. Rather than relying on conventional recruitment messaging, the film presented the organisation through its people and achievements, creating an employer-brand asset capable of supporting recruitment communications and talent engagement.

Why It Worked
One film, two strategic objectives
The creative simultaneously addressed internal employee confidence and external employer branding, allowing Liberty Global to communicate a consistent identity to existing and prospective employees.
People before corporate messaging
Rather than relying on statistics and declarations, we placed employees at the heart of the story. This made the company’s achievements feel personal, relevant and authentic.
Leadership with a human voice
CEO Mike Fries provided a clear narrative thread, connecting the organisation’s achievements to its broader vision while maintaining an accessible, reflective tone.
Cinematic storytelling and visual effects
The use of projections, reflections and carefully integrated imagery created a distinctive visual language that elevated the film beyond conventional corporate communications.
International production without unnecessary overhead
Combining UK-led creative direction with trusted international crews enabled us to deliver a complex multi-country production efficiently, maintaining creative control and consistent quality.
Speed without compromising ambition
A three-week turnaround required precise planning, decisive creative leadership and a fully integrated production and post-production workflow.
The Result
Liberty Global needed more than an end-of-year highlights film. It needed a piece of communication that could unite an international workforce, reinforce confidence in the company’s direction and communicate the culture and ambition of the organisation to future talent.
Beast Films delivered a cinematic, internationally produced brand film that brought those objectives together through a single, emotionally engaging narrative. The project demonstrated how corporate filmmaking can move beyond reporting achievements to actively supporting employee engagement, brand confidence and talent attraction. It also showcased Beast’s ability to develop, produce and deliver complex international campaigns under exceptionally tight deadlines.
Six territories. Three weeks. One global story. Two strategic objectives.
A film designed not simply to show what Liberty Global had achieved, but to remind its people why those achievements mattered — and inspire others to become part of what comes next.
