Multiple Sclerosis Society “Earthquake”

Cannes Lions Shortlist.

Shot on location in a small terraced house in Brighton, Earthquake is a powerful charity advert created for The Multiple Sclerosis Society. Fresh out of post-production at The Mill LA, the film uses a tightly controlled, intimate setting to place the viewer directly inside the lived experience of the disease.

Rather than relying on explanation or statistics, the film focuses on sensation. The familiar domestic environment becomes unstable and unpredictable, mirroring the daily reality faced by people living with MS — where ordinary moments can suddenly become disorientating, exhausting, or overwhelming. The house itself becomes a metaphor, shifting from a place of safety into something fragile and uncertain.

The filmmaking approach is deliberately restrained and immersive. By grounding the story in a real, recognisable space, the film allows the emotional and physical impact of the condition to be felt rather than described. Subtle visual effects and sound design heighten the experience without overpowering it, ensuring the focus remains on empathy and understanding.

The intention behind Earthquake was to raise awareness by offering audiences a visceral insight into what living with multiple sclerosis can feel like — helping to foster compassion, recognition, and conversation around a condition that is often misunderstood.

The film’s impact and craft were recognised with a Cannes Lions Shortlist, highlighting its ability to communicate a complex, deeply human subject through cinematic storytelling.
