CAR PHOTOGRAPHY & AUTOMOTIVE FILMMAKING
Car photography and automotive filmmaking are highly specialised disciplines. Vehicles are reflective, fast-moving, mechanically complex, and unforgiving to light. Capturing them properly requires more than good cameras — it demands experience, timing, and deep technical understanding.
At Beast, automotive work is led by specialists. One of our senior team was trained on Top Gear, and with thousands of hours of automotive shoots behind him, knows how to make cars look powerful, desirable, and alive on screen.
UNDERSTANDING LIGHT, SURFACE & FORM
Cars behave like mirrors. Every panel reflects its surroundings, and every lighting decision is visible in the paintwork. Knowing when to shoot is as important as how.
We typically favour the moments just after sunset or before sunrise, when light becomes soft, directional, and controllable. This allows the shape, curves, and surface of the car to read cleanly without harsh highlights. Different paints behave very differently — matte, metallic, pearl, and gloss all require distinct approaches — and our process is built around controlling those variables, not fighting them.
PERFORMANCE & MOTION — SHOOTING CARS IN ACTION
Motion is where automotive filmmaking separates itself from standard production. Whether shooting tracking shots, drive-bys, or dynamic performance sequences, precision and safety are critical.
One of our videographers has spent years on the Formula 1 circuit, creating high-performance automotive content for Red Bull. That experience brings an instinctive understanding of speed, acceleration, braking points, and how cars behave under pressure — knowledge that translates directly into more cinematic, controlled footage.
Driving shots, vehicle-to-vehicle rigs, stabilised tracking, and controlled camera movement are part of our core automotive skillset.
AUTOMOTIVE STORYTELLING BEYOND THE TRACK
Automotive content isn’t just about cars racing around circuits. Many brands sit at the intersection of performance, lifestyle, and everyday use — and the filmmaking needs to reflect that.
We’ve produced automotive work for Autoglym, in collaboration with London agency Fall Off The Wall, where the focus was on craft, care, and pride of ownership rather than speed alone. In these projects, detail matters: surfaces, hands, textures, reflections, and environments all contribute to how the brand is perceived.
This ability to shift between high-performance motorsport and refined lifestyle automotive content is central to how we work.
LOCATION, ENVIRONMENT & CONTEXT
Backgrounds and environments are as important as the vehicle itself. We carefully select locations that complement the car’s character — whether that’s raw industrial space, open roads, urban architecture, or natural landscapes.
We also look for moments where the car interacts with its environment: dust trails, spray, heat haze, changing light. These elements bring scale, realism, and emotion to both photography and film.
A COMPLETE AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTION APPROACH
We often shoot automotive film and photography together, allowing a single production to deliver multiple assets efficiently:
- Hero automotive films
- Social and digital cut-downs
- High-end car photography
- Detail and texture shots
- Behind-the-scenes content
All produced under one creative vision, with consistency of tone and quality.
WHY BEAST FOR AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTION
Beast combines motorsport experience, lifestyle sensibility, and technical discipline. From Formula 1 environments to brand-led automotive campaigns, we understand how to film and photograph cars in a way that feels controlled, cinematic, and authentic. Automotive production is not generalist work. It’s a craft — and it’s one we know inside out.
